DIY Cures for a Sore Throat

At Home Steaming

Giving yourself an at home sauna can be just what you need to clear out your sinuses. This has saved me a time or two when it comes to my throat.

  • 1 medium size bowl
  • Enough water to fill said medium size bowl
  • 1 bath towel
  • some essential oils (if you have them)

This one is pretty simple. Fill a bowl with some extremely hot water + add a few drops of eucalyptus oil (or another). Lean over the bowl and drape your towel so you build up steam under the towel.

Cayenne Pepper + Honey

Strangely enough, cayenne can relieve pain.

  • 1/2 teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon of honey

Boil some water and dump in the pepper and honey.  Push through the initial reaction, because it’s so worth it.

Starbucks just announced that a once secret menu item has now made it’s way onto the regular menu. The “Medicine Ball” or the “Cold Buster” was getting requested more than 20 times a day at one Starbucks location… so here’s an at-home recipe to get the same thing for WAY less:

  • 1 bag of Mint Majesty
  • 1 bag of Peach Tranquility
  • 2 bags of honey
  • half water
  • half steamed lemonade

Fortune Magazine said managers put in the request after getting over 20 orders a day for this drink! These recipes are sure to kick your ailing sickness to the curb!

Teavana is available online and in Starbucks stores, but if you want to pick up some while at the store, brands like Celestial and Bigelow have great tea products at Walmart!

Bigelow Mint Tea – $2.42

Celestial Peach Passion Tea – $2.32

Nature Nate’s Honey – $6.98 (these are a bit more pricey, so I buy the regular bottle of honey – but these individual packets are great for bringing along in the car)

If you’re ready for some other homemade remedies, we’ve got even more recipes for you.

Apple Cider Vinegar Drink

This can help with anything from bacteria, allergies, or just a sore throat.

  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 cup of hot water

If you’re not wanting to swallow this concoction, you can just mix the apple cider vinegar and hot water and gargle. If you’re up for drinking the mixture, add some honey to be soothe on your throat. And drink it while it’s warm!
