7 Ways to Take Control of Your Health

Taking control of your health isn’t always easy. If it was, everyone would do it. Luckily, there are some small, easy things you can do TODAY to start taking control of your health once and for all.

Drink More Water

I know, I know, anyone who is anyone will tell you this tip for a healthy lifestyle, but it really is important! Drinking more water will not only improve the way you feel but it way you look. It reduces bloating, takes down acne, and keeps you fuller longer. With this being said, this is one of the easiest ways to stay healthy.

I’ve found that if I have a water bottle with me at all times, I am more likely to drink more during my day. There are some great Contigo water bottles available at Walmart that will help you keep track of how much water you drink!

Get To Walkin’

When you work a desk job, it’s easy to find yourself sitting for hours on end, which is so bad for you. In fact, they’re now calling sitting the new smoking. Buy a FitBit—it’s more of an investment, but my Fitbit Charge HR has helped me set goals for myself and has reminded me to get up and move. Plus if you’re competitive like me, you can challenge friends in step competitions (and win, of course).


Get Enough Sleep

If you are like me, it can be hard to fall asleep. And I have found coffee in the morning doesn’t always cut it, I need pure, uninterrupted sleep. (Please forgive me coffee, I love you so much.)

Getting enough sleep decreases the risk of obesity, heart disease, and high blood pressure. And it also affects our mental health, makes us more likely to be alert and to perform well. I don’t know about you, but I will gladly take some more sleep in my life. I have a cup of Sleepytime tea or chamomile right before bed to help me fall asleep. I love the taste of the Celestial Seasonings tea, it’s bold but somehow get’s me to the place I need in order to fall asleep.

Prep Your Meals

I don’t know about you, but when I hear the words “meal prep,” I instantly feel intimidated. The thought of being that prepared is pretty foreign for me, but trust me—once you start, you won’t want to stop! Pick up your groceries on Saturday, and prep your meals for the week on Sunday! Pack any items that need to be microwaved or refrigerated in some small Pyrex. You can toss it right into the microwave, eat out of it, then throw it in the dishwasher!

Bonus Tip (For The Brave)

When I first heard this, I was disgusted: Drink a glass of hot lemon water in the morning. Why would someone put themselves through that, drinking the sourest citrus…especially in the morning hours? The worst hours. But in a moment of curiosity, I tried it out. Not joking, this makes me feel so much better throughout my day.  It aids digestion, helps with weight loss, and really wakes me up with a sour bite. Another plus, it has made my skin more clear in a way that no face wash has helped.


  1. Wake up…the most difficult step of the series.
  2. Heat up water. If you want this to be fast, I would recommend getting an electric kettle! It’s fast and affordable. I have found Hamilton Beach has the quickest one!
  3. Squeeze half a lemon in a mug.
  4. Add hot water.
  5. Enjoy!

Set Small Goals & Celebrate!

If you set smaller goals for yourself, you are going to be more likely to achieve them and more likely to not grow weary in them.

Celebrate your little wins! Watch that show after working out. Eat a piece of dark chocolate, I recommend Ghirardelli Intense Dark. Buy that shirt you’ve been wanting. Pat yourself on the back (literally if that kind of thing makes you feel good). Do whatever you need to celebrate that you have reached a goal!
