A Peek Into The Shopping List of a Newlywed
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This is one of my all time favorite sayings. I’m a creature of habit, so once I find something I like, I love it for life—especially when it comes to food. As a newlywed, one of the hardest adjustments has been figuring out how to cook for two people. Over time, we’ve gotten into a routine and have managed to find recipes that we both love and crave every week. Here are the products you can usually always find in our shopping cart:
I wasn’t a huge fan of ground turkey until late, but we have found so many ways to cook this up throughout our week. In fact, we often use it in lieu of ground beef for a lot of recipes—like for tacos and taco salad, or spaghetti.
LaCroixWe go through LaCroix like nobody’s business at our house. If we’re being honest, we actually make mid-week trips to Walmart just to restock our stash (lime for me, orange for him).
Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast
The possibilities for chicken breast are endless. A lot of times, we keep it in the fridge for nights when we don’t have other plans. We throw it on the grill or in the oven with whatever seasonings we’re craving that day, cook up some veggies or rice for the side, and call it gourmet. We usually buy the bulk packs from Tyson and freeze what we don’t use.
Lactaid is my BFF. While my husband isn’t lactose intolerant, he’s actually come to enjoy this stuff more than regular milk. We don’t drink a lot of milk in our house, so its long-lasting fridge life suits us perfectly.
Tostitos Cantina Thins
My husband makes a mean homemade salsa, and we love Mexican food in general. That being said, you can always find a bag of Tostitos Cantina Thins in our pantry, and Mason jar of homemade salsa in the fridge.
I know these things are technically for kids, but we are obsessed. They’re easy to peel, taste fresh, and give me a quick alternative for a late night snack when I’m craving something sweet.
Classico’s Traditional Basil Pesto is another item we like to keep stocked up on for a quick meal solution. Our favorite way to use it is when we grill chicken. We spread a little bit on top while it’s still on the grill and it adds so much flavor. If we don’t feel like firing up the grill, we’ll cook up some pasta to go with it.
Even though I get coffee when I make it to work, I can hardly get out of bed without that first sip. We grab Starbucks Breakfast Blend in the 1-pound bag and it’ll last us a couple of weeks since we’re only making enough for the two of us to have one cup.
These are the BEST to have in your pantry! They are the perfect side for any meal—grilled chicken, pasta, fish—you name it! We like to make our own little olive oil + balsamic vinegar dip to go alongside it.
Give a sister some advice: What are some other products that are perfect for feeding two?
