Look 02: Dress Up, Dress Down
As classic as they get, you can never go wrong with a little black dress. It’s the simplest solve to one of life’s most perennial frustrations: “But I have nothing to wear.” The best part about this apparel conundrum is that the black dress may be the most popular item in your closet, or even a shameless default, but it always does the trick, day-in x day-out. If we’ve learned anything about fashion from our Editor-In-Chief, Anna Cottrell, it’s that you can never own too much black. When it comes to styling, we aim for a balance of laid back + luxury. Playing into the power of the dress itself, but never overpowering. As our brilliant EIC once shared, there’s an allure that comes from leaving at least one thing undone.
Our take: pair with your favourite frames, a light touch of gold accessories, and agreeable footwear that will last you through the work day x can be exchanged for a slightly more elevated heel for after office hours. Note: For the pieces sourced from our own closets, as well as pieces currently out of stock, we’ve sourced some inspirational dupes for you so you can complete the look – black heels , gold earrings and cat eye sunglasses .
This is our second installment in our Spring Lookbook series: a guide for curating a tasteful capsule closet of ready-to-wear pieces we can actually afford. Much of our lookbook has taken inspiration from Brandon Maxwell, the new creative director + brains behind Walmart’s newest collections Free Assembly x Scoop. While we take pages from his book, we spin our own tried x true styling rules on ready-to-wear apparel. If you want a crash course [or even a little refresher], you can find our latest styling chapters for our complete Spring Lookbook Series : Look 01, Look 03, Look 04, Look 5, Look 6
