Letter From The Editor | 2019 In Review
As the year is coming to a close, I find myself reflecting on how much has happened this year and how much there is to be grateful for. We’ve had a beautiful year of growth at our publication — both in our readership and editorial team, and we have seen firsthand the beauty that can happen when women come together to drive a common vision.
This year, we found our cadence. We dedicated ourselves to cementing our voice and finding our rhythm of engaging and inspiring women through content + product curation. By learning + leaning into each team member’s strengths, we have deepened our connection with our community of readers both in-person and online. When you read one of our articles, know that there’s a small but dedicated team of talented, committed, and passionate women who pour into every word and image that hits your screen.
For some, Aisle 9 has been a new find for you this year. For others, you’ve been with us since the beginning. To both of these groups, I’m so grateful, and to see this platform rise to and exceed my hopes is such a gift. When I came on to the publication, I was obsessed with learning about people’s favourite products: how they use them and how they work them into their daily lives. While most publications I looked to — Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Architectural Digest — showcased aspirational lifestyles, I knew women were looking for something attainable, something that can actually fit into + elevate their daily lives. I would flip through the pages of these publications, noticing page after page of unattainable [though, still beautiful] art, while the products I most related to were embedded within uninspiring ads. It was then that I asked the question — “Why can’t we elevate the things we’re all actually using and bringing into our homes?” That question has become our foundation — the value we bring to readers — curating everyday, attainable products that elevate women’s daily lives. A spot where everything is under $200 — so women like you can land on our page + feel confident about their place in the world instead of feeling insecure about their bank account balance.
The vision above is what we’ve seen come to pass — through 150+ native articles this year alone, over 10,000 readers, and a team of creative, talented women — and we are grateful. Grateful for every text, in-person run-in, and DM sending us your product recommendations + encouraging words. Grateful for the in-person events where we get to connect with each of you face-to-face. Grateful for you. I am so inspired by this next wave of women.
Thank you to our readers, our Founder, CEO, ad department, and partners. You’ve made all of this possible.
On that note, I wish you all a wonderful, fruitful, and positive year ahead — cheers to 2020.
The best is yet to come. . .
