How to Prep Your Wardrobe For Winter

Make sure your wardrobe is ready for the cold weather too!

Winter is around the corner, which means it’s time to put away the sandals and shorts and pull out your bin of scarves, hats, gloves and wool socks. If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably find yourself pulling out shoes that look like they’ve been through hell and back. What even happened the last time you wore them? As far as you recall, you didn’t hike Mount Everest in them, so what gives?

Weather is arguably one of the most unforgiving things that can happen to items in your wardrobe. Snow and rain can completely ruin your shoes, rendering them useless, and can make your scarves smell like wet towels that have been sitting in the washer for a week.

Luckily, our friends at Kiwi make an amazing product that you’ll want to make sure you keep in your arsenal: KIWI® Protect-All. You can spray it on your shoes and, while allowing them to breathe, it provides an invisible shield that will repel water, spills, dirt, and wear.

Actually, it can be used on a lot of your stuff and it happens to be perfect for prepping your wardrobe for winter.

Scarves are one of my favorite things about winter. They can add a fun pop of color to any outfit AND they serve a purpose. Win-win. But, they can get really gross, and I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t like to wash my scarves.

Lay out all of your scarves as soon as you take them out of storage this year and spray them down with KIWI® Protect-All. This will help repel water and spills and keep them looking like new.

Yet another opportunity for a winter fashion statement. But while your hat is protecting your hair from the moisture and your ears from frostbite, it’s soaking up lots of water…kind of gross when you think about it, isn’t it?

Stick your hats on a basketball or a different round object and spray them with KIWI® Protect-All.. This will not only keep the hat itself protected but will only strengthen their ability to protect you.

Even if you’re not having a snowball fight (but you should), you want to make sure your gloves aren’t getting soaked when you wear them. With the glove on your hand, give it a light spray of KIWI® Protect-All. The light silicon protective layer will help repel water and keep your hands toasty and dry.

This is probably the most important item for you to protect. Especially if you have to walk to work or class, your boots are trudging through snow, water, ice, and so much more. And, let’s be honest, what’s worse than wet shoes?? Very few things.

For this one, you’ll want to grab KIWI® Boot Protector. It will ensure your boots are repelling water and gush and will keep them looking pristine year after year.

Jackets and Coats

Another item I hate to wash–especially my fleece jackets. If you wash them, they lose their softness, and I’m not about that. Spraying your jackets and coats with KIWI® Protect-All will help them repel water and will keep snow from soaking in. Plus, it’ll help fight stains from any spills or mishaps.

Just hang your jacket up on a hanger and give it a light, even spray, being sure not to saturate the fabric.

If you’re having to walk any distance outdoors in the snow or rain, you’re going to want to make sure your purse or bag is protected. Stuff your bag and give it an even spray of KIWI® Protect-All–this will help your bag repel water, scuffs, and will keep it looking pristine right into the next season.

Ski/Snow Pants

Whether you’re headed on a ski trip or are just trying to keep warm, spraying down your snow pants with KIWI® Protect-All will help fight the breakthrough of snow and water. Especially if you’re doing a high activity sport like snowboarding, skiing or even sledding, it will help prevent wear and tear, allowing you to enjoy them year after year–just repeat the process each year when you bring your snow pants out of storage.

SMACK Hack: Keep a note in your storage bin to remind you to grab your KIWI® Protect-All each year.

All of this to say: Don’t let there be any unpleasant surprises when you take your winter clothes out of storage next year. Save yourself (and your wallet) a headache and take the time to spray down your stuff with KIWI® Protect-All
