Why You Should Be Shopping at Sam’s Club This Summer

I’ll be the first to admit that half of the reason I enjoy shopping at my local Sam’s Club is for all of the free samples. Last time I went, I enjoyed a smorgasbord of foods from sushi all the way to fresh watermelon. Free samples aside, Sam’s Club makes shopping for bulk items so much easier and so much cheaper—especially if you’re planning on throwing parties and cookouts this summer (which you definitely should be).

Here are some tips, tricks, and hacks for getting the most out of your Sam’s Club trips this summer:

Save Some $$ On Meat

One of the most expensive aspects of throwing a summer cookout or barbecue is buying all of the meat. Since this is an area you won’t want to skimp on in terms of quality, be sure to get your Ball Park® Franks, Tyson® Frozen Chicken Breasts, and any other essential grilling items at Sam’s Club. The 6.5 lb bag of Tyson® Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast is $14.98 at Sam’s Club, which comes out to about $2.30 per pound! (And whatever you don’t use, you can zip back up and keep in the freezer!)

Plenty of Sides

One of the first items to go at a cookout? Those classic, salty, delicious Lays® Potato Chips. A lot of times, Sam’s will actually run some really good specials on their chips (like $2 off when you buy 2 bags), so be sure to check for any Instant Savings that might be running! Pick up big bags of chips like Lays®, Doritos®, or Tostitos® Scoops at Sam’s Club so you’re sure not to run out! When you’re ready to serve them, just cut off the tops and roll down the bags to form a makeshift bowl.

Drinks Galore

Another item you never want to run out of at a cookout? Drinks! Stock up on your Pepsi®, Mountain Dew®, and Aquafina® at Sam’s Club to ensure you don’t run out. Again, be sure to check for any Instant Savings that might be running so you can save a little extra $$! Plus, whatever you don’t drink will keep, so you’ll be stocked and ready for next time.

Did I Mention Free Samples?

Sam’s Club always has the best free samples—from simple items like fruit all the way to freshly-made guacamole. I don’t think there’s much more I need to say on this subject…

No Lines? Yes, Please!

Does anyone actually enjoy standing in lines? Sam’s Club now has their free “Scan & Go” app so you can avoid all checkout lines. Yes, this is real life. All you have to do is scan your barcodes in Sam’s Club and pay via the app! Crazy, right? They also offer a pickup service so you can shop online, then head to your Club to pick up your order. This also helps with impulse shopping which, if you’re like me, can be an issue!

Here’s the link to download the Scan & Go app on the iTunes App Store, or the Google Play store.

Pool Time!

Sam’s Club probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind when you’re thinking of buying new pool toys and accessories, but it should be! Growing up with a pool, we would shop at Sam’s for everything from new pool noodles to swimsuits. They’ve even upped their game since I was a kid—cute floaties for kids all the way to giant inflatable unicorns for lounging, they’ve got it all at affordable prices.

Secret Lingo

Looking at price tags is kind of a no-duh, but according to Smatterist, there’s an entire code system behind how stores price their items. For example, if an item at Sam’s Club has a price that ends in a 1 (like .01, .31, etc.), then it’s the lowest price the item will be and you should jump on it. If the shelf tag contains the letter N, it means it’s never out, a.k.a, always in stock. If there’s a C, it means the product is canceled and the Club will be moving them out soon.

Know Your Store

While some Sam’s Club offers and promos are nationwide, every location operates differently depending on a variety of factors (like delivery schedules and management). I’m thoroughly convinced the nicest humans work at Sam’s Club—don’t be afraid to ask an employee for the inside scoop on discounts, new stock items, and everything in between.

Honestly, shopping at Sam’s Club doesn’t even feel like shopping sometimes. Sign up for a card this summer so you, too, can get in on the savings game…and all those free samples.
