13 Ways to Spice Up Rice Krispies Treats

I loved cooking as a child, but I remember certain recipes being off limits because of the oven. The big scary, yet shiny object that was off limits. I once grabbed something fresh out of the oven without knowing the consequences, which led to a long stretch of not being “old enough” to use it anymore.

There were certain recipes I could make all by myself though. I still remember the feeling, as a young girl perched on a step stool at the countertop. I would approach my station like it was the first day of work, and I was ready to impress all who I would encounter.

One of my favorite recipes to make was Rice Krispies Treats. My mom taught me the steps: melting the butter, adding the marshmallows and slowly melting them over the heat, stirring in the Rice Krispies with a big wooden spoon and finally shaping them to the pan. After the first few times of preparing Rice Krispies Treats alongside me, my mom started letting me take on making them alone. It was such a special time to learn from her. With a hectic household, it was a quiet time to spend just the two of us.

As I’ve grown up, I still love to cook, but I’ve gotten bored with the treat that once captured my attention. So, I went hunting for some new variations on my beloved treat that I can (now) make all by myself… but I’ll definitely be inviting my mom over for some, too!

You have to start with a beloved classic Rice Krispies Treat, while I will venture out to new flavors, nothing will totally replace this childhood friend. Learn how to make the classic OG Rice Krispies Treat with this simple recipe!
