My Quick Makeup Routine For Busy Mornings
I would never lie to a fellow lady, so it is time for a confession. I, Olivia, the writer of this article, am the laziest makeup lover on the planet. There. I said it. I love makeup, but I don’t have time as a young woman who is a full-time student, wanna-be Youtube makeup guru, who is balancing the requirements of the ever-pressing ‘now.’ My life is far from constant, but one thing that has persisted on throughout my many beauty phases is my Lazy Queen 5-step makeup routine. Whether it’s for class, work, or when I need to get ready to go out in a snap, I use 5 steps and 5 steps only to ensure my makeup routine is quick and effective:
The products I use in this routine shuffle constantly due to my never-ending pursuit for beauty product perfection (sigh), these steps are absolutely drugstore friendly so I’ve included some of my favorite brands that you can find at your local Walmart or on Walmart.com. If I can perform this routine in a communal dorm bathroom. You. Can. Do. It. Too.
Step 1: Moisturize
Moisturize. Moisturize. MOISTURIZE. It doesn’t matter if your skin is flakey, normal, or oily enough to fry chicken on your cheeks (like me) moisturizing before your makeup and before taking on the day is the best thing you can do to keep your skin looking healthy, hydrated, and wrinkle free. This will also help your makeup look fresh throughout your day. P.S. Your moisturizer should contain at least 30 SPF to get full protection from the sun during your day. (sun damage is a friend to NO ONE) I am constantly obsessing over St. Ives Timeless Skin Collagen Moisturizer and Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30.
Step 2: Conceal
Instead of breaking out your brushes and sponges pat on some concealer with your finger to cover areas with redness, troublesome acne spots, or any spots you don’t feel like showing off that day in a snap. I personally use a lightweight concealer like Maybelline Fit Me Concealer under my eyes, on the bridge of my nose, and on the sides of my cheeks where I have problems with redness. The lazy queen (me) encourages you to use your hands as your most efficient tool in your tiny beauty arsenal. For a little extra glow action, use the L’Oreal Paris Magic Lumi Highlighter to give your skin a dewy look.
Step 3: Eyebrows
Out of all the steps on this list eyebrows are BY FAR the most essential and most beneficial to shortening and enhancing your everyday beauty regimen. Every magazine and blog has said it, “Eyebrows are the frames for your face,” and even on my laziest days when I shorten my routine to just one step, this is the one to keep. I use a brown mascara to darken my eyebrow hairs and then fill them in with a pencil to keep a natural yet full look, because not everyone can be Brooke Shields in The Blue Lagoon. Unanimous sigh. Trust me on this one, this step mustn’t be ignored. My go-to brow products you can snag at Walmart are the Maybelline Great Lash Washable Mascara in Brownish Black (for darkening the hairs of your eyebrows) and Revlon Colorstay Brow Pencil in Dark Brown.
Step 4: Mascara
This one is almost a no-brainer. When it comes to really mastering this super quick routine, mascara is to your eyes, as coffee is to my morning, it isn’t a non-option. I prefer to use L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in Carbon Black or Maybelline’s Great Lash Mascara in Very Black to ensure that my lashes are wispy and thick in a flash. (Pro Tip– put the glob of product on the end of your wand at the base of your lashes and then brush through to make your eyes a one-stroke step)
Step 5: Blush & Bronze
Last one, almost done! While this step has been deemed not as necessary these days as, let’s say, contouring, I find that time and time again I am reaching towards my blush and bronzer. Blush is the perfect lazy queen product for framing my cheeks, and helping me not look like a lifeless caffeine zombie. This final step gives your face a little bit of life and more dimension than you would think. Just dot some color on the apples of your cheeks and voila!
Slip Milani Baked Powder Blush 01 in Dolce Pink and Physicians Formula Shimmer Srips Sunset Strip Custom Bronzer Blush & Eyeshadow into your next grocery run to finish up your look! (Pro Tip- use a shimmery bronze colored blush in the summer on your eyes, cheeks, and nose to get that selfie-worthy sun-kissed glow.)
From a woman who occasionally (read: often), sleeps with the light on because she is too lazy to get up and turn it off, this routine is just as effective at your bathroom counter as it is with a hand mirror in bed. 10 minutes, 5 products, and only the ambition to lift a mascara wand makes this routine ideal for every one of my fellow lazy ladies.
